Tasks and responsibilities within the LONGTIME® Committee

The main mission of the LONGTIME® label’s expert and ethics committee will be to contribute to informed decision-making in the field of durability by sharing its expertise, opinions, recommendations and advice in relation to durability and/or the labelling activity. Collective intelligence is a strength, and it’s vital that we listen to our peers.

Among the tasks identified, the committee is invited to participate in :

  • Objectivity: Probably the most important mission of the committee, which can be consulted for
    • Dispute or question about a manufacturer’s application
    • Opinion on the handling of appeals
    • Opinion on the reduction of a deviation or on a non-conformity
    • Opinion on the evolution of the criteria
  • Quality assurance : The experts may be asked to check that the control and inspection procedures comply with quality standards and regulatory requirements, and that there are no loopholes, with the agreement of the inspection body. The committee may make recommendations and/or decide on improvements and adjustments to enhance the effectiveness of the labelling process.

  • Risk assessment : Helping to identify, anticipate and assess the risks associated with our activities, particularly in the areas of greatest risk. (IP, international development, regulations, etc.)

  • Regulatory advice : The committee may advise or alert the label manager, Ethikis, to ensure compliance with current regulations and standards. The committee will have the power to conduct internal audits if necessary. A regulatory watch will be shared by Ethikis and enhanced by all committee members.

  • Technical assessment and development of criteria : Reading, analysing and commenting on data, technical information, criteria and reports relating to the standards and the labelling scheme. The committee will contribute to the evaluation and/or development of rules in line with industry best practice.

Functioning of the Committee

The committee will meet several times a year and on request. To preserve its integrity, committee members must be free from political or commercial interference and act objectively without conflict of interest.

The experts will communicate opinions, recommendations and positions to Ethikis’ management and stakeholders. This information may be made public for greater transparency, while respecting business confidentiality.
